Known in the past as the city between the bridges, Stockholm’s Gamla Stan (Old town) is one of the most popular attractions of the city. It is one of the largest and best preserved medieval city centers in Europe. When the city was founded in 1252, Gamla Stan was Stockholm and all life revolved around this part. Nowadays, Gamla Stan is one of the culturally richest old towns in Europe.

Stockholm City Hall or Stadshuset as the Swedes call it, is the seat of the local government, but more importantly, it is the place where The Nobel Prize ceremony is held every year. It is located on the Kungsholmen island in the middle of Stockholm.

Built in the early 20th century, Stadshuset’s most impressive part is its tower, which is more than a hundred meters tall. Among the other popular attractions of the Stockholm City Hall are several ceremonial offices and a luxury restaurant. As a part of the Stadshuset complex is Stadshusparken, a small park, famous for many sculptures made by some of the greatest Scandinavian artists.

Gröna Lund

The oldest amusement park in Sweden is Gröna Lund. Located in the close to the city center, on the island Djurgarden, this park has been a popular attraction since the day it opened, in the late 19th century. The Vasa Museum

The Vasa warship was unlucky enough to sink on her first voyage in the 1628, right in front of Stockhlom where it left from. The maiden voyage lasted 15 minutes and the ship sailed 1300 meters. It took over 300 years before it was lifted up again in 1961 and after decades of reparation was made into a maritime museum. Today it stands on the Djurgarden island as the best preserved 17th century vessel.

The Ericsson Globe is the national arena of Sweden and the official venue of the Swedish hockey team. It is the part of the biggest model of the solar system in the world. The globe represents the Sun so logically it is the biggest building of the complex.

SkyView is an elevator that operates on the outside of the Globe, transporting the visitors to the top. In less than a year since the SkyView opened, more than a hundred thousand people visited it, which an impressive number, knowing that the elevator can carry only 32 people at a time. The views from the top of the Globe over the whole city of Stockholm are magnificient.
