The Macys of Helsinki. If youre going shopping in Helsinki, its good to take Stockmann as your starting point. The selection here is pretty good and the prices are reasonable. Stockmann is the oldest and biggest department store in Finland. It was originally established in 1862 by a German merchant Georg Franz Stockmann. In 1930 the building which houses Stockmann today was finished, complete with revolving doors, a soda fountain and escalators and Stockmann moved here from Senate Square.

If you see 90% of people in Helsinki streets carrying yellow bags, the “crazy days” sales in Stocmann is taking place (“Hullut päivät” in Finnish). Stockmann held the first private://hullut päivätprivate:// in 1986 and the sales proved extremely popular so it has been a biannual event ever since.

The first television transmission in Finland was broadcast from the department store in 1950.

Costs: 

You can probably get things cheaper from the shopping malls and outlets in the suburbs but generally the Stockmann prices are reasonable with no extraordinary puff.

Stöten is located in Sälen, one of the biggest ski areas in Sweden. The Sälen ski resort includes the ski areas of Kläppen, Lindvallen, Högfjället, Tandådalen, Hundfjället and Stöten.

Sweden's largest resort (in terms of number of lifts and runs in one area under one name) has almost as many tourist beds and uplift as all the others put together.
