For those interested in the Chinese culture, paying a visit to the Shanghai Museum is a good way to discover artifacts of the past. Ancient Chinese art is on display here, the museum being split into eleven galleries. You can see Ming furniture, coins, Ancient Ceramics or examples of calligraphy while visiting the galleries.

The museum hosts several thousand art pieces, the coins exhibit featuring well over 7,000 pieces on its own. You can spend more than two hours to visit the museum, as there are a lot of elements within the exhibitions . Minorities that were part of Chinese history are not ignored here, as a special gallery is dedicated to all of the nationalities that put their imprint on the evolution of the Chinese people as a whole.

Getting there: 

Take the Metro on Line 1, 2 or 8 and get off at People's Square Station. From there, use exit 1 and walk south. The museum is open between 9AM and 5PM.

Costs: 

8,000 tickets are issued for free daily. Special exhibitions cost an additional RMB 20.
