The Planai and Hochwurzen are the main entrance to the mountain ski region of Schladming connecting four ski resorts with 115 km of slopes and 52 cable car systems. Embedded in the picturesque countryside of the Styrian Enns valley, the Planai and Hochwurzen offer the most sophisticated skiing experience in Austria. Around skiing a region of recreation and wellness has developed, ranging from floodlit slopes to special offers for snowboarders. No wonder that the Planai hosted the World Championships in Alpine skiing, the Junior World Championships, the Special Olympics World Games as well as other international events. The most spectacular event of the winter season is the floodlit slalom taking place every year (24 January 2006)... About 45.000 fans turn the Olympic arena of the Planai into absolute pandemonium. This largest ski resort of Styria offers all ski and snowboard freaks everything that belongs to a successful winter holiday. This includes not only the technical facilities, but also the ambience in the little mountain town of Schladming which has preserved its original character despite its international fame.
