General info:

Like a number of big time ski areas, Park City was once home to miners in search of precious metals. Today, a new breed of searcher comes looking for the area's legendary snow. Main Street is lined with boutiques, galleries, and restaurants that have managed to blend old with new. Nightlife bustles. The mountain itself is broad and steep, and offers some of the most varied terrain in the Wasatch range. Park City is home base and training site for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team.

Timberline Lodge

The venerable Timberline at Government Camp located at the 6,600-foot level of Mt. Hood (11,235 feet) has a 3,590 vertical and 1,430 skiable acres. The best World Cup national teams train at Timberline in the summer.

Diamond Peak has a vertical drop of 1,840 feet with a high base and summit elevation that captures plenty of snow. It is located at Incline Village on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.

Discovery Ski Area

This is another one of those undiscovered areas with excellent pricing, but snow that is seldom in real abundance. But, when it is, Discovery can make for some of the best riding in the state. The vertical is 1,670.

Donner Ski Ranch

Donner Ski Ranch was first utilized for skiing in 1937 and is located high atop historic Donner Summit. The area's first rope tow was located at the base of the current lodge.
