Berchtesgaden is a key Bavarian resort, active year-round, with six ski centres nearby. It has formerly put in bids to stage the Winter Olympics. A very pretty village with excellent accommodation and dining options. The resort includes the village of Schönau am Konigsee, a small centre included in the area lift pass. It has small drag lifts on the wooded slopes above the village, close to the Jenner ski area. Jenner itself has the main slopes of the five main Berchtesgaden ski areas, being cable-car served. The lift pass covers most other lifts in the area on either side of the border and accommodation and extensive off-slope facilities are available in Berchtesgaden.
