Morzine is one of 14 resorts in the massive Portes du Soleil ski area, which spans the Franco-Swiss border. With 52 hotels and 41 bars and restaurants, it’s a concentration of ski holiday facilities, but still manages to pull off that authentic mountain village feel. When it comes to the slopes, Morzine is a fine destination for beginners and intermediate skiers, with an abundance of gentle pistes. It’s also a good place from which to explore the Porte du Soleil’s many off piste options if you’re feeling adventurous. Lifts often lead directly up to these areas, which mean less hiking and more skiing. Freestylers, however, may want to skip Morzine and head to neighbouring Avoriaz, since Morzine’s park doesn’t offer anything exceptional.

Simonhöhe

In the family-winter-wonderland St. Urban / Simonhöhe everybody has the possibility to ski as the slopes are well prepared and there is no risk of avalanches.

Sirnitz - Albeck - Hochrindl

5 ski tows and a modern 4-passenger chairlift with 20 km long wonderful runs makes the heart of the young and the old skier alike leap. Snowboarders are welcome and can romp about to their hearts' content.

Risoul

At the gates of Queyras and the Guil valley, sat on the edge of a mountain overlooking Mont Pelvoux and the Massif des Ecrins, the ski resort of Risoul.

Ristolas

Ristolas has a small ski area with three parallel drag lifts, but is close to the larger village of Abries, with which it is jointly marketed, that has a larger ski area including a new six seater chair lifts.

Roccaraso - Rivisondoli

A traditional hillside village with three separate ski areas in the mountains above together providing a good mix of ski conditions and gradients. There is a huge modern hotel complex at Aremogna (1625m) with doorstep skiing.
