General info:

Kaivopuisto the oldest and most well known park in Helsinki. When the weather is nice during the summertime the park is filled with people who come there to have picnic, sunbathe, play games or just hang around. Kaivopuisto offers several hectares of parks, both on flat ground, and on cliffs. If you wish you can also always choose to have a sea view as the park is by the sea.

First of May (Vappu) is the busiest day in Kaivopuisto when whole Helsinki and most of the surrounding cities come here to have their picnic. For some people it is not enough to bring just a blanket and some food for the Vappu-picnic, instead they bring basically the whole interior of their homes with sofas, table, chairs, paintings etc. to have perfect setting for their 7 course picnic menu…
In the wintertime you can check out also the surrounding islands by walking there on the ice.

Kaivopuisto also includes Kaivohuone, a famous restaurant and nightclub dating from the 1830s, and the Ursa Observatory.
