General info:

The Hermitage is the biggest art museum in Russia and is one of the must-visit places in St. Petersburg. The reasons don’t lie only in the vast collection of the works of art of Da Vinci, Rafaelo, Van Gogh, Rembrant, and others, but also in the history of the museum building itself.

The main museum hall, the Winter Palace was built in the 18th century as a residence of the Russian emperor, Tsar Peter the Great, but it also was the place where Russian monarchy came to an end. This was the place where the royal family were held prisoners during the October Revolution. After that, the building became the part of the Hermitage museum.

Getting there:

The Hermitage museum is located at the 2, Dvortsovaya Square, or Dvortsovaya Ploshchad as the Russians would say. It is just a hundred meters from the Nevsky Prospect and the metro stations in that street. The closest one is the Admiralteyskaya subway station.

Costs:

The admission ticket costs 400 roubles for non-Russian visitors.

Mirny is a small town, with less than 40,000 citizens, but is one of the most famous in Russia. It is fairly remote town, surrounded with cold and wild Siberian forests.

Ryugyong Hotel

Started as an ambitious pet project of Korea’s leader Kim Il-sung in the 90’s the Ryugyong hotel somehow proved to be a disaster. The construction turned to waste and the unfinished building stood in the middle of Pyongyang for years.
