General info:

Flatiron building is considered to be a groundbreaking skyscraper. Upon completion in 1902 it was one of the tallest buildings in New York. Designed by Daniel Burnham, it has 21 floors and is 307 ft (93 meters) tall.
The skyscraper was built as the headquarters of the Fuller Construction company and was meant to be named Fuller Building. However the building was soon dubbed 'Flatiron' after its unusual shape, caused by the triangular plot. Even though the plot is a right triangle while a clothing iron is an isosceles triangle, the name stuck and the building was officially renamed Flatiron Building.

Today the building is an icon of New York City but also a functioning office building. It was designated a New York City landmark in 1966 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989.
