General info:

Diocletian’s Palace is an ancient residence of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, designed to house him after his retirement in 305 AD. After the Romans moved away from here, the palace remained abandoned until the 7th century, when it became a permanent settlement. Today the palace, along with adjoining areas to the west, forms the very heart of Split. Many shops, restaurants, bars and apartments for tourists can be found within the palace.

Since 1979, the palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The palace has been featured on the reverse of the 500 kuna banknote, the edition issued in 1993. If you are a Game of Thrones fan, you might be familiar with Diocletian’s Palace, as it was used all throughout the fourth season of the series as a filming location.

Getting there:

The palace is open from 9AM to 11PM. It is located near the southern port of Split and near the train station and is pretty easy to recognise.

Most of the area can be freely visited, although certain locations require additional fees that have varying costs.

Grotta del Bue Marino

The Bue Marino Grottos are considered some of the most beautiful grottos in all of Italy, with kilometers of galleries, rivers and subterranean lakes, stalactites and stalagmites, fossils and Neolithic graffiti.

Zwiesel

Primarilly a cross country skiers resort, for which it is world famous, with an incredible amount of terrain. Downhillers will find very limited slopes about 20 minutes out of town, the biggest at Arber.

Zweisimmen

At the German-speaking end of the rail-link included Gstaad ski pass and now lift linked to the ski areas above neighbouring Saanemöser, St. Stephan and Schönried.

Zuoz

This is the biggest snow sports region in Switzerland. Amid unrivalled sweeping scenery you will find expertly prepared slopes served by state-of-the-art lift facilities.

Zugspitze

The ski area Ehrwald is located in the Zugspitz Arena. The conditions for skiers and snowboarders are exceprionally well in the ski area. The slopes are well groomed and suitable for all levels of difficulty.

Zuberec/Milotín

The ski resort of Zuberec/Milotin is situated in the regions of Orava/Západné Tatry. The ski resort is an altitude from 825 to 1055 meters above sea level.Zuberec/Milotin's ski season runs from December thru March.
