General info:

In the last decade, Amsterdam became famous all over the world for its coffee shops that offered marijuana products. It brought thousands of visitors to the city and changed the look and the spirit of the traditional Amsterdam bars. Still, there are places spread all over the city that still keep the atmosphere cherished by the city’s artistic and intellectual elite from the previous century. The Brown Café is a general term for this sort of bars. The name comes from their coffee-colored walls.

The perfect example of a traditional Amsterdam Brown Café is the Café Welling, which is located some 10 minutes by walk from the city park. Relaxed atmosphere and a rich offer of domestic and imported beers attract dozens of visitors every day. If you are lucky to get a table in this place, don’t forget to try ‘jenever’, a type of Dutch gin and ‘hapjes’ which are a type of snacks.

Getting there:

Café Welling is located at J.W.Brouwerstraat 32, which is just a few blocks away from the Vondelpark.

Costs:

Amsterdam Brown Cafés are generally not expensive. Expect regular food and beverage prices in any of the Brown Cafés.
