Built on an 1860 metre high plateau facing due south; the ski resort of Alpe d'Heuz is a great resort guaranteeing its visitors a maximum of good weather. The ski resort of Alpe d'Huez and its surrounding ski area is made up of Alpe d'Huez and five other smaller village resorts; Auris en Oisans, La Garde, Oz en Oisans, Vaujany and Villard-Reculas. Offering up to 2230 vertical metres of vertical ski descent, the ski area offers 120 ski slopes (240 km) and a great range of specialised areas such as snow parks, boarder cross tracks, night skiing and beginner zones, all-purpose built. The ski area also has four amazing ski runs, each of them offering approximately 2000m of vertical descent. The most famous of them, the Sarenne, at 16km in length is the longest ski run in the world. For the little ones, the day care centre “Les Intrépides (The Fearless)private:// welcomes children from 6 months up to 4 years old. Both the French Ski School (ESF) and the International Ski School (ESI) offer child care packages to look after your children for the day (includes skiing, games and meals). In Alpe d'Heuz non-skiers can also rest assured, a great range of activities such as walking (35km of marked trails), snowmobile rides, an ice cave (accessible by taking the DMC gondola), an ice rink, two swimming pools, ice driving courses and everything you could ever need to let your hair down and relax (massage, sauna, Jacuzzis...)

Skiing is usually possible throughout the year in the glacier ski area Hintertuxer Gletscher.
