Apartheid Museum

The Apartheid Museum is a museum complex in Johannesburg dedicated to illustrating apartheid and the 20th century history of South Africa. Opened in 2001, it was the first of its kind, showing the rise and fall of apartheid. The building comprises several leading architectural firms and is a superb example of design, space and landscape. The exhibits have been assembled and organized by a multi-disciplinary team of curators, film-makers, historians and designers. They include film footage, photographs, text panels and artifacts illustrating the events and human stories.

First National Bank Stadium is located in Nasrec, bordering the Soweto area of Johannesburg. The stadium was opened in 1989 and with a capacity of 94,736 it is the largest stadium in Africa.

It was the venue for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final, which was played by the Netherlands and Spain. It holds also political importance as it was the site of Nelson Mandela's first speech in Johannesburg after his release from prison in 1990 and served as the venue for a memorial service to him on 10 December 2013.

The Lion Park is a lion wildlife conservation enclosure in Gauteng province in South Africa. It is home to over 80 lions including the rare white lions and many other carnivores such as cheetah, wild dog, brown and spotted hyena, black backed jackal and a wide variety of antelope which roam freely in the antelope area containing blesbok, gnu, impala, gemsbok and zebra.

The carnivore camps are separated whilst the lions are protected from one another by barriers and fences to prevent the different prides from attacking one another as by nature, lions are fiercely protective of their territory and will become aggressive if other lions or prides enter their domain.

Satyagraha House

The Bush Babies Monkey Sanctuary is a privately owned multi-specie primate rehabilitation centre situated in Magaliesberg mountain range, close to Hartbeespoort Dam. The sanctuary takes in donated and rescued primates that may have been orphaned, raised as household pets, previously confined to captivity, abused, injured or recovered from the illegal pet trade. They are than rehabilitated for free-release within the natural forested environment of the sanctuary.

The Gold Reef City is a large amusement park, located on an old gold mine and themed around the gold rush on the Witwatersrand. The Park staff wears period costumes of the 1880s and the buildings on the park are designed in the stlye of the same period. There is also a museum dedicated to gold mining on the grounds where it is possible to see a gold-containing ore vein and see how real gold is poured into barrels. Besides, you can enjoy yourself on the numerous water rides and roller coasters. We suggest taking a ride on Anaconda, the record holder for the fastest and tallest inverted roller coaster in Africa.

Soweto (South Western Townships) is an urban area of the city of Johannesburg bordering the city's mining belt in the south.

Soweto was created in the 1930s when the White government started seperating Blacks from Whites. Blacks were moved away from Johannesburg, to an area separated from White suburbs using the infamous 'Urban Areas Act' in 1923.
Soweto became the largest Black city in South Africa, but until 1976 its population could have status only as temporary residents, serving as a workforce for Johannesburg. Today the area´s population is over 1.3 million.
