The Best Beaches of Menorca

administraitor's picture

Menorca might not be as popular or well known as its sisters Ibiza and Mallorca but the beaches here are something else. Especially the southern part of the island is full of small calas and coves with crystal clear turquoise waters that could all be pictured in postcards. And many of them are. Here is a collection of some of the best beaches in Menorca.

Cala Macarella & Macarelleta beach

This twin beach is among the 2 best beaches in Menorca, together with the Cala Mitjana. Cala Macarella & Macarelleta are the subject of around 50% of the postcards sold in Menorca. Completely for a good reason though, the beaches are simply awesome. The turqoise water with rocky walls rising from the side creates a magnificent setting that one could adimre all day long. The water is obviously clear as a crystal and watching from the right angle it looks like the boats are levitating. To be frank, Cala Macarella & Macarelleta are good rivals in the top beaches of the world competition. Once in Menorca, this beach is something you must experience.

Cala Mitjana

Location

Menorca
Spain
39° 56' 3.084" N, 3° 58' 20.496" E
ES

Cala Mitjana is one of the most beautiful beaches in Menorca and in our opinion rivals with Cala Macarella&Macarelleta for the beast beach of Menorca title. A tall limestone wall rises from the sea on the left side of the beach creating a beautiful scenery that is best at sunset when the stone is coloured orange. The water is crystal clear as is typical to the Menorcan beaches.

Cala Mitjana is not as popular as Cala Macarella&Macarelleta so it is easier to find your own spot, whether it is on the beach or on the limestone rock.

Cala en Turqueta

Location

Menorca
Spain
39° 55' 56.46" N, 3° 54' 53.892" E
ES

Cala en Turqueta is a ridiculously beautiful Menorcan white sandy beach in a picturesque setting. The right side of the beach is dominated by limestone rock but not in as dramatic way as for example in Cala Macarella&Macarelleta. The rocks here are shallower.

The water is fantastically clear and also rather shallow so the beach is good for families with children. There are no facilities so bring everything you need.

The tour boats stop by near this beach occasionally so if you want to avoid those, be informed.

Cales Coves

Location

Menorca
Spain
39° 59' 6" N, 4° 6' 48.9996" E
ES

Cales Coves is an interesting option for those seeking to get away from the crowds. The “beaches “ are not very spectacular and basically not suitable for sunbathing and relaxing in the way we know it. There is basically only rock to spread your blanket on but if you find the right spot, it can be great as well.

Despite the lack of whity sandy beaches, the place is awesome. The high rocks provide spectacular views of the Cales Coves bay, which usually attracts a couple of sailboats as well to enjoy the peace. The water is crystal clear and calls for snorkeling.

Cala des Talaier

Location

Menorca
Spain
39° 55' 35.724" N, 3° 54' 9.396" E
ES

Cala des Talaier is a picturesque small beach in a small bay with calm waters. The turquoise crystal clear water makes you forget that you are not in paradise but close to civilization in Spain.

This beach is a bit less crowded than the easier access beaches but you can always count on not being alone. Also small boats like to anchor on the bay especially on the peak season. There are no facilities in this beach.

Cala Fustam

Location

Menorca
Spain
39° 55' 33.348" N, 4° 0' 2.628" E
ES

Cala Fustam is a tiny beach away from the crowds. The setting is beautiful with the white sandy beach located at the end of a narrow cove.

The water is clear and the turquoise sea against the limestone rock and pinetrees is a scene directly from a postcard. The access to this beach is not very easy which makes Cala Fustam one of the best beach hideaways in Menorca.

Cala en Bosc

Location

Menorca
Spain
39° 55' 34.86" N, 3° 50' 15.144" E
ES

Cala en Bosc is a spacious beach a walking distance from the town center. The beach will be crowded but despite the everyday crowds, it is kept pretty clean.

If you prefer easiness over own peace and quietness, this is a good choice. Even though the beach is full of umbrellas and sunbathers and hotels and restaurants are close, the setting is in the end very beautiful.

This beach has lifeguards so it´s good for families with children.

Fornells Bay

Location

Menorca
Spain
40° 2' 58.632" N, 4° 7' 39.576" E
ES

The Fornells Bay is the best bay in menorca for windsurfing. At least for the beginners. The winds are not too rough and bay provides shelter from the bigger waves.

At the marker location, there is a windsurfing school called Wind Fornells. The waters around the surfing school are really good for learning surfing as they are shallow enough so students can stand in the water but deep enough so that surfing is possible.

If you are into windsurfing, this is the best place to start it in Menorca. This place is however not suitable for kitesurfing if that is your passion.

There are also SUP and sailing lessons and rentals available.

Cala En Porter

Menorca
Spain
39° 52' 14.88" N, 4° 7' 55.308" E
ES

Cala en Porter was one of Menorcas first beach resorts and its popularity has lasted until this day. This beach where also the town got its name is spacious one with tall cliffs on both sides creating a dramatic backdrop.

As typical in Menorca, the water is crystal clear and ideal for snorkeling. Pedalboats and umbrellas are also available. The beach is popular among families, which is no wonder considering that it is located right next to the town with restaurants, shops and hotels nearby.
